Vanderbilt Plays Host to Wichita State In Second Round of Postseason NIT 3/19/2005 Vanderbilt will play host to Wichita State in second round action of the Postseason NIT Monday at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by ESPN. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-877-44-VANDY or at vucommodores.com. The McGugin Center Ticket Office is closed on Sunday but will be open Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $12. Vanderbilt (19-13) is coming off a 67-60 first round victory at Indiana on March 16. Corey Smith scored a career-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Shan Foster added 11 points. The victory over the Hoosiers snapped Indiana’s 10-game home win streak and marked Vanderbilt’s first win in Bloomington in series history. Wichita State (22-9) advanced to play the Commodores after topping Western Kentucky, 84-81, on Saturday in first round action. The Shockers had earlier defeated Houston, 85-69, in the opening round. The Commodores enter Monday’s game with a 23-game home win streak against non-conference opponents and are within one victory of recording their first back-to-back 20-win seasons since the 1993 and 1994 campaigns. Vanderbilt is making its 10th appearance in the NIT, having won the tournament’s postseason title in 1990 while finishing second in 1994. Monday’s contest will mark the first meeting in series history. |
