3/13/2005

Vanderbilt will take on Indiana in Bloomington on Wednesday in the opening round of the 2005 Postseason NIT. The contest is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET. It will be televised by ESPN2.

The Commodores will be making their 10th all-time appearance at the nation’s oldest college basketball tournament. Vanderbilt, 16-8 all-time in the NIT, won the tournament title in 1990 and finished in second place in 1994. Vanderbilt’s last appearance in the NIT came in 2002 when the Commodores beat Houston, 59-50, in Nashville before dropping an 83-68 decision at Louisiana Tech.

Vanderbilt (18-13) enters the NIT after dropping a 77-73 decision to Auburn in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament last week in Atlanta.

Indiana (15-13) enters the tournament off a 71-55 setback to Minnesota in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament last week in Chicago.

Indiana leads the all-time series 6-2. Vanderbilt won the last meeting, 73-60, in Nashville on Nov. 24, 2003. The teams have never met in postseason play.
