Vanderbilt’s Corey Smith has been named Second Team All-Southeastern Conference, while Shan Foster has earned selection to the All-SEC Freshman team, the league announced Wednesday.

Smith, a senior guard/forward from Houston, Texas, is averaging a career-high 12.0 points and 4.4 rebounds heading into this week’s SEC Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. Smith has scored in double figures 19 times this season, including 17 of the last 22 games. He has led the Commodores in scoring 10 times, rebounding 10 times and assists on eight occasions.  Smith led Vanderbilt (18-12, 8-8 SEC) and ranked 16th in the SEC during conference play, averaging 12.9 points to go along with 4.6 rebounds.

Foster finished first among SEC freshman and second overall, shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range (40-of-88) during league play. His 55 3-pointers this season rank second on the team and are the most by a freshman during the Kevin Stallings era at Vanderbilt (since 1999-2000 season).

The Kenner, La., native enters the SEC Tournament averaging 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds for the season. He posted 10.3 points and 4.1 rebounds a game during SEC play.

Foster becomes the first Commodore to be selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team since former Commodore Brian Thorton in 2002. Six Vanderbilt players have earned the award since its inception in 1987.
