Dores Downed at Mississippi State 3/6/2005 The No. 31 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team surrendered its second conference matchup of the weekend on Sunday, dropping a 5-2 decision to Mississippi State in Starkville. The Bulldogs gained control of the doubles point with a pair of victories at Nos. 2 and 3. The No. 35 Commodore doubles pairing of Scott Brown and Jason Pinsky kept their perfect record intact at the No. 1 position, knocking of MSU’s No. 15 duo of Luiz Carvalho and Juan-Carlos Pinto. With the win, the duo improves their 2005 mark to 10-0. The Bulldogs grabbed the first two singles matches at the No. 5 and 6 positions. At No. 5, MSU’s Pierre Mouillon captured the win over VU’s Jordan Magarik, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 6, VU’s Andy Mack fell to State’s Florent Girod in straights, 6-1, 7-5. The Bulldog’s clinched the match with their fourth win at the No. 4 position. Pinto dropped VU’s Preston in straight sets. Commodore freshman Jason Pinsky gave the Dores their first point of the day at the third slot. He knocked off MSU’s Ivan Bjelica in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (5). The win improves Pinsky’s 2005 record to an imposing, 9-2. VU’s No. 40 Brown also got back in the winner’s column Sunday, closing out his match against MSU’s Carvalho 7-6 (1), 6-4, to give the Commodores their second point. The Bulldogs capped the match with a three set win over VU’s Matt Lockin. The Commodores continue the hunt for their first SEC win on Friday as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for a date with the Gators. The Dores then hit the road for South Carolina on Sunday.
