Bowlers Claim Weekend’s Second Win

Bowlers Claim Weekend’s Second Win

3/6/2005

The Vanderbilt bowling squad nabbed it second win in two days, as they closed out competition in the Holiday Bowl Tournament.

The first three games of the day were traditional games.

The Commodores dropped the first matchup to No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson, 1066-805.  The Dores went on to fall to both No. 4 Sacred Heart and No. 6 Bethune Cookman in Sunday’s action.

Head Coach John Williamson’s squad rebounded in the remaining Baker games, notching their second triumph in two days over Delaware State.  The Dores downed the Hornets, 818-742.

VU’s newest sport fell in the final game of the day to FAMU, 885-785.

“I thought Therese Griner, Kim Simpson, and Jessica Tower were all solid for us today,” said Williamson.

Overall, the Commodores finished 12th out of 14 teams.

“We did a better job of competing against Delaware State,” said Williamson.  “Last week they beat us and we were able to close it out this week fairly convincingly.  I was proud with the way we took advantage of our opportunities. We bowled against the best and we faired pretty well this weekend.”

The Commodores return to action on March 19 as it plays host to the Music City Classic.  The event will be held at Melrose Lanes.
