The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team notched a pair of victories last weekend as they knocked off both Clemson and Presbyterian College in spring soccer action.

The Dores recorded a shutout against Clemson, dropping the Tigers in convincing fashion, 4-0.  VU junior Kelsey Hegg led the Commodores with a pair of goals on the day.  Also scoring for the Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie-Hill’s crew was sophomore Susan McAleavey and freshman Sarah Dennis.

“Kelsey Hegg was absolutely fantastic this weekend,” said Coveleskie-Hill.  “She scored four world class goals on the weekend.  She was poised, competitive and proved to me that she is becoming a top notch attacking player in our program.”

Against Presbyterian College, Kegg added to her goal total on the weekend with two more blasts that found the back of the net.  VU freshman Lea Lafield also tallied a goal for the Dores as they cruised past PC, 3-0.

“We had a small window of time to prepare for our matches this weekend,” said Coveleskie-Hill.  “I was very proud of our effort — both collectively as a unit as well as individually.  I am looking forward to watching us play again after spring break.  Any time a team scores seven goals and preserves two shutouts?that is a good weekend of soccer.”

The Vanderbilt women’s squad returns to spring action on March 19 as they head to Huntsville, Ala. for a date with the University of Michigan and the Region III Team.

“The more we play as a team, the more apparent it is that there will be many faces of Vanderbilt Soccer in the future,” added Coveleskie-Hill.  And, that is very exciting for both our staff and team.”
