Commodores Conclude Regular Season At LSU 3/4/2005 Game Notes Vanderbilt travels to Baton Rouge to close the 2004-2005 regular season Saturday against the LSU Tigers. The contest will be televised by Jefferson Pilot Sports. Tip time has moved to 3 p.m. CT. The Commodores (18-11, 8-7 Southeastern Conference) and Tigers (18-11, 11-4 SEC) are among the hottest teams in the league as the postseason approaches. Vanderbilt has won seven of its last 10 games and continues to build a strong r?sum? for competing in the NCAA Tournament. The Commodores’ solid defense has held SEC foes under 70 points in 13 of 15 league games while their 3-point shooting ranks among the nation’s best (9.7 threes per game ranked third in NCAA through Monday). Vanderbilt posted a come-from-behind 75-65 victory over South Carolina Wednesday in the season home finale and 800th game played all-time at Memorial Gymnasium. The Commodores outscored the Gamecocks 30-10 over the final 8:07, thanks in part to Mario Moore’s game-high 22 points (without a turnover). DeMarre Carroll sparked the rally, posting eight of his 12 points and three of his six rebounds inside the final six minutes of the game. The victory gave VU a third-place finish in the SEC Eastern Division. LSU is rolling along at even a better pace than Vanderbilt having won five consecutive games and nine of its last 11. The Tigers are led by forwards Brandon Bass (17.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg) and Glen Davis (13.1 ppg, 8.8 rpg). The Tigers can claim the SEC Western Division title Saturday with a win over Vanderbilt coupled with a Mississippi State victory over Alabama. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 53-45, but LSU owns a 27-18 advantage in Baton Rouge. The Commodores last win at LSU came in a 71-67 decision on Jan. 10, 2001. |
