Bowling Faces Nation’s Elite 3/4/2005 The first-year Vanderbilt bowling team heads to Bessemer, Ala., this weekend to take on the sport’s top talent at the Holiday Bowl Tournament. The Holiday Bowl features a 15-squad field that showcases some of the nation’s top squads including National Champion Nebraska, and runner-up Central Missouri State. “The Holiday Bowl Tournament has a pretty competitive field,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach John Williamson. “I think we will get some solid experience against the best teams in the nation.” Currently, the Commodores are led by sophomore Christine Luce and senior Kim Simpson. Luce has hurled 30 games this season and averages 165, while Simpson has rolled 16 games and posts a team-high average of 176. As a whole, the Dores are currently hurling a team average of 139 through 198 games. In its last outing at the Morgan State Invitational, the improving Commodores posted a 154 team average in traditional games action. “The girls have been working hard in practice between the tournaments, fine-tuning the things we are teaching them,” said Williamson. “The improvement tournament by tournament can definitely be attributed to their work ethic.” The tournament action begins for the Dores on Saturday at Noon and lasts until 5:00 p.m. The Commodores return to action on Sunday, where they take the lanes from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. |
