Bowling Adds One at Morgan State Invite 2/28/2005 The Vanderbilt bowling team hung tough with No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, but could only garner one victory at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore, Md. On Saturday, the Commodore bowlers competed in traditional matches. The Dores took on four squads, claiming one of those matchups. Coach John Williamson’s squad took their lone win of the weekend from South Carolina State, 811-802. In the contest with South Carolina State, senior Kim Simpson hurled a 191 and while sophomore Christine Luce threw a 179. The high game for the Commodores on Saturday came from the hand of junior Jennifer Redmond. The Charlotte, N.C. native tossed a 203. In Day Two action, the Commodores faced off against national powerhouse and 2nd ranked Fairleigh Dickinson. The Dores battled the Knights frame by frame, but came up just short, falling by a mere five pins, 543-538. In their other four matches, the Commodores hung tough as well, taking Delaware State to the edge, 496-481. “I think we did a great job in hanging with the other teams,” said Williamson. “We still have a ways to go on competing. We were ahead in most of the matches and then lost it in the third game. We need to work on closing matches when we get the opportunity to. Overall, the Commodores averaged 781 as a team in both Traditional and Baker games combined. Luce and Simpson led the Dores with a 179 average. Redmond followed close behind, averaging a 154.
