| Vanderbilt Defeats Tennessee-Martin, 12-5
2/23/2005 Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores scored 11 unanswered runs, including five in the sixth and seventh innings and one in the eighth, to come from behind to defeat the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks today at Hawkins Field. Sophomore left-hander Greg Moviel earned the win for the Commodores while UT-Martin reliever Adam Ledlow picked up the loss. Freshman shortstop Dominic De La Osa went 3-4 at the plate with four RBI and scored two runs for the Commodores. De La Osa tied the game at 5-5 when he hit a two-run home run, his first collegiate home run, over the left field fence. Senior centerfielder Antoan Richardson recorded the game-winning RBI when his only hit of the game scored sophomore right fielder Bill Kleinschrodt who reached on a single. The Commodores led 6-5 following the sixth inning. The Commodores batted around in the seventh inning and added five more runs all before they recorded their first out. Baxter and junioor catcher Brian Hernandez led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when junior first baseman Mike Baxter scored on a De La Osa single up the middle. UT-Martin took a 5-1 lead with three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth. The Commodores totaled 15 hits in the game led by De La Osa and Baxter with three each. Baxter was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle as he hit a single in the fourth, a triple in the sixth and a double in the seventh. Freshman designated hitter Alex Feinberg entered the game in the sixth inning and recorded singles in his first two collegiate at bats. Each team committed three errors in the contest. Seven Commodore pitchers saw action in the contest, including starter Jeff Sues (two), Stephen Shao (one), Matt Buschmann (two), Moviel (one), Michael Wagner (one), David Price (one) and Ryan Rote (one). Wagner, Price and Rote closed out the three final innings without giving up a hit and striking out six batters. The Commodores host Boston College Friday (Feb. 25) in the first game of the Music City Classic at Hawkins Field at 4 pm. Tickets are $1. |
