Commodore Golfers 11th at Arizona 2/22/2005 Vanderbilt women’s golf team improved 10 shots during Tuesday’s final round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational but still placed 11th in the 14 team field. Sophomores Kristen Svicarovich and Chris Brady led Vanderbilt’s resurgence with rounds of 74 and 73. Par is 72 on the Arizona National Golf Club. UCLA hung on to its opening day lead to nip host Arizona by a single shot (864-865). Louise Stahle of Arizona State, who led going into the final day, claimed medalist honors at 209 after shooting a final day 73. She edged Charlotte Mayorkas of UCLA by a stroke. Vanderbilt’s next action is March 4 at the Suntrust Lady Gator in Gainesville, Fla. Fourteen teams are in action. It was a difficult day for the Commodores, who entered the event as defending champions. No individual could find the right combination with freshman Liebelei Lawrence the team leader after rounds of 79-77. UCLA is the team leader at 573 with Louise Stahle of Arizona State topping the individual leader board after rounds of 64-72-136. The tournament concludes today with a final round of play.
