No. 6 Commodores Face MTSU 2/21/2005 The Vanderbilt women’s tennis squad is set to face-off against in-state rival MTSU at the Currey Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon. The Dores come into the match riding the sails of a successful weekend in which they knocked off their sixth nationally ranked squad of the year with a 6-1 thumping of Rice. Against the Owls, the Dores claimed the doubles point on a come from behind win by the No. 20 combo of Taka Bertrand and Amanda Fish. The duo reeled off seven consecutive games to drop their opponent and steal the doubles point. In the singles draw, Coach Geoff Macdonald’s crew laid stake to five of six singles matches. At No. 1, Audra Falk notched her sixth win of the year, while at No. 2, Fish downed Kimberley Patenaude in straight sets to match her Commodore counterpart with six triumphs of her own. Caroline Ferrell, Annie Menees, and Amanda Taylor also garnered wins for the Commodores on Saturday. The Blue Raiders come to West End Tuesday posting a 3-3 record thus far in 2005. In their last outing, the Blue Raiders fell to No. 58 Ole Miss 5-2 in Murfreesboro. Against the Rebels, MTSU took the matchup at the No. 3 doubles position and also garnered a win at the No. 4 singles position. The Blue Raiders feature the Sun-Belt Player of the Week in Ann-Kristin Siljestrom. The Stockholm, Sweden native has won all six of her matches this spring including the Raiders lone singles victory against Ole Miss. The Commodores and Blue Raiders are slated to lock horns Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. |
