Commodores Face Lady Gators In Gainesville Sunday

No. 20 Vanderbilt (18-6, 7-4 SEC) hits the road for its second meeting with Florida. The Commodores are Gators will tip off at 2 p.m. (CST) and the game can be heard live on WNSR 560 AM.
Vanderbilt has won five of its last six games. The Commodores shot a season-high 64.6 percent including 72.7 percent in the second half as VU rolled by Arkansas, 78-43, last Thursday. Carla Thomas scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Ashley Earley recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Abi Ramsey finished with 11 points. Vanderbilt out-rebounded the Lady Razorbacks, 41-20, and outscored Arkansas, 44-26, in the paint. Despite last Sunday’s set-back at No. 6 Tennessee, Vandy has been playing well in its last six games. The Commodores are shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. Earley has led the way averaging 19.2 points and 10.8 rebounds while Thomas has averaged 17.7 points and Ramsey chipped in 15.7 points. On the season, Earley continues to lead the team scoring 18.7 points and grabbing 9.3 points. Thomas averages 16.1 points. Dee Davis (13.3) and Ramsey (11.7) are the other two Commodores scoring in double figures. Vandy continues to lead the SEC in scoring offense (80.3) and field goal percentage (50.6 percent). Earley ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage (.651).
SCOUTING THE FLORIDA GATORS Florida (14-10, 5-6 SEC) had the week off after knocking off Mississippi State at home in its last outing, 67-56. Bernice Mosby led the team with 17 points and 16 rebounds in the game. Tashia Morehead scored a game-high 19 points. Florida shot 48.2 percent in the game and led 35-17 at halftime. Mosby leads the team averaging 15.7 points while Tamia Williams nets 12.2 points. The Gators only shoot 40.5 percent from the field. In SEC play, the Gators have been the leading three-point shooting team hitting 40.2 percent of their three-pointers in league play. Mosby has been averaging 16.4 points in SEC play.
THE FLORIDA SERIES This will be the 40th meeting between Vanderbilt and Florida on the basketball court. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series, 22-17. The Commodores are 3-2 under Melanie Balcomb against Florida. Vanderbilt won this season’s first meeting in Nashville, Tenn., 84-73. Florida has won 10 out of the last 15 meetings.
LAST TIME AGAINST FLORIDA Abi Ramsey hit a school record eight three-pointers and scored a career-high 30 points and No. 21 Vanderbilt shot 59.2 percent from the field as the Commodores rallied late to defeat Florida, 84-73, in Memorial Gym. Ramsey’s eight three-pointers was a new Vanderbilt single-game record. The Commodores made 13-of-23 attempts from behind the arc. Carla Thomas finished with 14 points and Ashley Earley added 13 points for Vandy. Bernice Mosby led the Gators with a team-high 15 points while Tishona Gregory had 14 points. Vanderbilt shot 56.5 percent from three-point range and registered 22 assists. Florida shot just 41.9 percent in the second half and shot 48.4 percent in the game.
UP NEXT FOR THE COMMODORES Vandy returns home to host Alabama on Senior night which will be the final home game for Abi Ramsey and Ashley Earley. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
