Hickman Chosen Preseason All-Conference 2/18/2005 Junior Kate Hickman was named a preseason All-Conference selection by American Lacrosse Conference coaches, league commissioner Peggy Pruitt announced Friday. As a team, the Commodores were selected to finish in a tie for third place in the league for the second year in a row. Last season, Vanderbilt exceeded those expectations by winning the conference championship and advancing to the NCAA semifinals. League coaches chose Northwestern and Johns Hopkins ahead of Vanderbilt this year. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2004, with the Wildcats posting a first-round victory over Notre Dame. Northwestern’s Kristen Kjellman and Johns Hopkins’ Mary Key were chosen to succeed former VU All-American Michelle Allen as ALC Player of the Year. The remaining preseason All-Conference team includes Lindsay Frank (Davidson); Lacey-Leigh Hentz (Johns Hopkins); Regina Oliver (Ohio State); Dana Dobbie (Ohio University); Ashley and Courtney Koester (Northwestern); and Lee Tortorelli, Lori Havrilla and Kristen Burke (Penn State). The American Lacrosse Conference is a lacrosse-only conference and will send its regular season champion to the 2005 NCAA tournament by virtue of an automatic qualifying berth.
