Game Notes

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Vanderbilt travels to Auburn to battle the Tigers Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will not be televised.

The Commodores (14-10, 4-6 Southeastern Conference) are coming off a 60-54 loss at Mississippi State Saturday. Vanderbilt rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 47-47 with 7:12 remaining but could never grab the lead.

Freshmen Shan Foster (14 points, six rebounds) and Alex Gordon (11 points) led the Commodores in scoring. The duo accounted for seven of Vanderbilt’s nine 3-pointers for the game. The Bulldogs were led by Shane Powers’ 16 points (11 in first half) and Lawrence Roberts’ 15 points, 14 rebounds.

Auburn (12-11, 3-7 SEC) has won three of its last five SEC contests after starting 0-5 in league play. The Tigers won 74-71 at South Carolina with Toney Douglas (22), Ian Young (20) and Quinnel Brown (19) combining for 63 of Auburn’s 74 points. Douglas leads the nation among freshmen and is tied for second in the SEC among
all scorers, averaging 18.0 points a game.

A win Wednesday at Auburn gives Kevin Stallings 100 victories in six seasons as Vanderbilt’s head coach. He would become the first current SEC coach to compile 100 or more wins at two schools. Stallings posted a 123-66 coaching mark in six seasons at Illinois State (1994-99) before coming to Vanderbilt.

The Commodores own a 72-49 advantage in the all-time series with Auburn, including last year’s 59-53 win at Memorial Gymnasium. That victory set the school record for consecutive wins to start the season at 12. Vanderbilt has lost the last three meetings at Auburn.
