Bowlers Head South for Magnolia Extreme Bowling Classic

The new Vanderbilt bowling squad looks to carry its new-found momentum into Natchez, Miss., this weekend as they compete in the Magnolia Extreme Bowling Classic.

In its last outing, Coach John Williamson’s team claimed three wins at the Greater Ozark Invitational, including the program’s first win over #7 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 798-752.

The Dores continued their winning ways over the next two days, knocking off Arkansas Pine-Bluff twice for the team’s second and third wins.

The (Whitewater) win was big,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach John Williamson.  I didn’t tell the girls about Whitewater’s No. 7 ranking because I didn’t want the girls to psych themselves out.”

The Commodores enter the Magnolia tournament coming off two solid weeks of practice.

“We have had two very good weeks of practice in which the girls have really stepped up the intensity,” said Williamson.  “As a team we are expecting big things to happen this weekend.”

National powerhouse Central Missouri State will be in the solid field of teams in Natchez over the weekend.  Other strong squads such as Southern University and Arkansas Pine-Bluff are also expected to be in attendance.

“It will be a great tournament with a solid field.  I feel that we have the ability to be successful against these teams,” said Williamson.

The Dores hit the lanes of Natchez Friday and Saturday.
