NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior guard Abi Ramsey hit a school record eight three-pointers and scored a career-high 30 points and No. 21 Vanderbilt shot 59.2 percent from the field as the Commodores rallied late to defeat Florida, 84-73, Sunday afternoon in Memorial Gym.

Ramsey’s eight three-pointers was a new Vanderbilt single-game record. The Commodores (15-5, 4-3 SEC) made 13-of-23 attempts from behind the arc.

Carla Thomas finished with 14 points and Ashley Earley added 13 points for Vandy. Bernice Mosby led the Gators (12-8, 3-4 SEC) with a team-high 15 points while Tishona Gregory had 14 points. Vanderbilt welcomed back former player Carolyn Peck, the head coach for Florida, on alumni weekend, but handed Peck’s team their fourth loss in league play.

Vanderbilt shot 56.5 percent from three-point range and registered 22 assists. Florida shot just 41.9 percent in the second half and shot 48.4 percent in the game.

Vanderbilt trailed 59-51 with 13:31 remaining in the game. Ramsey made two three’s and Earley made a lay-up for a quick 8-0 Vandy run tying the game, 59-59, with 11:43 left in the game. The Commodores took the lead for good on Ramsey’s seventh three-pointer at 10:04 mark to go ahead, 63-61. Ramsey’s record breaking three-pointer extended the Vandy lead to 66-61 with 8:06 left. Katie Antony’s fast-break lay-up put the Commodores ahead, 68-61 with 7:19 left.

Florida got within, 68-63, with 6:27 remaining on two free throws from Gregory. Vandy then made 10 free throws in the final five minutes to preserve the win.

Ramsey hit a three-pointer as time ran out in the first half to put the Commodores up 43-42 at halftime. Thomas scored 10 points and Ramsey hit three three-pointers in the half to lead Vanderbilt. The Commodores shot 58.6 percent in the half while the Gators finished the half shooting 54.8 percent.

Vanderbilt led 7-2 right out of the gate on lay-up from Earley. The Commodores increased their lead to 20-12 with 13:04 left after a basket from Earley. VU built a 27-20 lead after Cherish Stringfield got loose in the paint. Vandy led 33-26 after another three from Ramsey, but Florida answered with a 9-2 run tying the game, 35-35 after Dalila Eshe hit a lay-up with 4:12 left. Florida took its first lead of the game on a three-pointer from Sarah Lowe to go up, 38-35. Two free throws from Briana Phillips gave the Gators a 42-40 advantage with 13 seconds left in the half, before Ramsey’s buzzer beater put the Commodores back on top at the half.

Florida made 7-of-15 from long range. Tamia Williams was the third Gator in double figures with 10 points.

Vanderbilt returns to action Thursday night when the Commodores travel to Starkville, Miss., to take on Miss. State. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South at 8 p.m.
