Vanderbilt Begins Four-Game Homestand With Visit From Ole Miss NASHVILLE — After playing four of its last five conference games on the road, Vanderbilt returns home to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday when Ole Miss visits for a 3 p.m. tip off. Game Notes The Southeastern Conference matchup will not be televised. Both teams are looking to snap losing streaks. Vanderbilt (11-8, 2-4 SEC) has lost four straight since an 88-63 road win at Tennessee on Jan. 8. Ole Miss (11-9, 2-5 SEC) has lost three in a row since a 59-54 home win over Georgia. The Commodores fell short at South Carolina on Wednesday, losing grasp of an 11-point second-half lead, before dropping a 68-63 decision in Columbia. Freshman Shan Foster led all Commodores with a career-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers, to go along with five rebounds. Jason Holwerda posted 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Vanderbilt tied a school record, attempting 35 3-pointers against USC. The Commodores also attempted 35 treys against Middle Tennessee (2/1/95) and Arkansas (2/11/95). VU’s 12 3-pointers Wednesday marked the ninth time this season the Commodores have hit a dozen or more treys in a game this season. In the Rebels’ 70-60 setback Wednesday at LSU, Tommie Eddie led Ole Miss with 15 points and six rebounds. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 66-38, including a 44-7 advantage in Nashville. Vanderbilt will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its first SEC Championship team at halftime. The 1964-65 Commodores led by John Ed Miller, Clyde Lee and Bob “Snake” Grace and coached by Roy Skinner posted a 15-1 league mark en route to 24-4 overall record. VU reached the Mideast regional final of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Michigan 87-85. |
