Vanderbilt Battles South Carolina Wednesday in Columbia

Vanderbilt travels to Columbia, S.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 26, for a 7 p.m. CT tip-off with Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina.

Televised by Jefferson Pilot Sports, the matchup is the Commodores’ fourth road game in their last five contests.

Game Notes

The Commodores (11-7, 2-3 SEC) look to rebound from a 68-59 setback at Georgia on Saturday — Vanderbilt’s third consecutive loss. Corey Smith led VU with 13 points and eight rebounds. Mario Moore and Julian Terrell added 11 points each.

South Carolina (10-6, 2-3 SEC) is also coming off a loss. The Gamecocks fell 73-65 at Mississippi State on Saturday. Tre Kelly led USC with 22 points while Carlos Powell added 18.

The Commodores have struggled in several areas in their last three contests, averaging 59.3 points a game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field (61-of-150) and 28.8 percent from beyond the arc (23-of-80). Meanwhile, Vanderbilt opponents are averaging 73 points while hitting 47.1 percent from the field (74-of-157), 45.7 percent from 3-point range (21-of-46) and outrebounding the Commodores by a 9.7 rebounds a game.

Senior reserve swingman Corey Smith has remained a steady force for the Commodores. He leads the team with 13.1 points and ranks second in rebounds with 5.4 over VU’s last 10 games.

Freshman Shan Foster continues to lead the SEC in 3-point shooting at 61.5 percent (16-of-26) since the start of league play. He has led all Commodores, averaging 12 point a game during the current dry spell.

South Carolina leads the all-time series 19-15, having won the last four meetings. The Gamecocks hold a 9-6 advantage in Columbia.

Following the South Carolina contest, Vanderbilt returns home for four consecutive games beginning Saturday against Ole Miss.
