Amanda Fish Named SEC Player of the Week

1/25/2005

Commodore sophomore and Scituate, Mass. native Amanda Fish was named SEC Player of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.

Thus far in 2005, Fish owns an undefeated record in both singles and doubles.

In the opening weekend of the season, Fish tallied victories against Christine Bader of Michigan State as well as Kristen James of Virginia while playing at the No. 2 singles position for the Commodores.

During the Dores recent road trip to Ann Arbor, the Vanderbilt sophomore scored perhaps her biggest win of the season, with her 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 95 Elizabeth Exon.

Fish then took her No. 116 ITA ranking to South Bend the next day and dropped Christian Thompson in three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

In doubles, Fish partners with Dore freshman Taka Bertrand to form the No. 20 doubles duo in the nation. Fish and Bertrand captured the doubles point for the Dores in the Notre Dame match with a thrilling 9-7 win over Brook Buck and Lauren Connelly.

Fish looks to remain undefeated as the Commodores head north to the University of Wisconsin for the ITA National Team Indoors, which run Feb. 3-6.
