Commodore Keeper headed to National Camp 1/20/2005
Commodore Keeper headed to National Camp Vanderbilt freshman goalkeeper Niki Reed will head to Los Angeles this weekend to represent Region II in the invitation-only, under-19 National Camp to be held at the new Home Depot Center. Reed will be one of eight keepers from across the country handpicked to train and play three games over the weekend. “I have the opportunity to train with the best around,” said Reed. “I hope to gain valuable experience in three training sessions as well as three matches. This experience will hopefully help me to make my teammates better.” Reed will play one half per match to accommodate the 7 other goalkeepers at the camp. “Niki Reed is talented and well-deserving of the invitation to national camp,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill. “She is not only very athletic, but she is a great leader who is able to make the big save to keep her team in the game.” The U-19 National Team camp runs from Thursday to Sunday, January 20-23. In perhaps her most outstanding game of the year, Reed held soccer power Wake Forest to one goal in over 118 minutes; making seven saves on 15 Deacon blasts. The Commodores would tie the Deacs 1-1 after two overtime sessions. “This is an opportunity for Niki that is going to raise her level of confidence,” said Hill. “Her best years are yet to come.” |
