Former Commodore Bobby Reynolds continues to make waves at the Australian Open, dismantling the 17th-seeded Andrei Pavel in Melbourne.

Reynolds got off to a solid start in the first set, battling the Romanian to a 6-6 tie. In the breaker, the ex-Dore showed his metal, stealing the set, 8-6, in the break.

The two-time All-American would carry the momentum of his first set victory into the second. Reynolds broke the serve of the world’s 23rd-ranked player three times in the second frame to claim the second set in convincing fashion, 6-2.

In the third, Reynolds went right back to work. He took 29 of 47 total points, breaking Pavel’s serve two more times. It would take the former Commodore all of 28 minutes in the third to pick apart his opponent and claim his first ever trip to the third round of a Grand Slam.

Overall, Reynolds fired 34 winners and converted 60% of his break point opportunities, defeating Pavel, 7-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the third round, Reynolds will face Rafael Nadal of Spain. Nadal defeated 15th seed Mikhail Youzhny of Russia Thursday, 6-1, 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
