NASHVILLE, Tenn. – N.C. State’s Rachel Stockdale scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the second half and the Wolfpack (12-2) shot 60 percent in the second half, including 58 percent from three-point range, as State ended No. 12 Vanderbilt’s 49 game nonconference home winning streak by holding on for a 65-64 win Thursday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

Abi Ramsey became the all-time leader in three-pointers made for the Commodores when she nailed her 204th career three-pointer with 1:43 left in the first half.

Dee Davis led four Commodores in double figures with 13 points while Carla Thomas registered her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Vanderbilt (11-2) had a chance for the game-tying basket in the final 34 seconds, but the Wolfpack forced their 19th turnover of the game. Stockdale made two free throws to put the Wolfpack ahead, 65-61. Davis made a three-pointer with one second left to make for the final score.

The Commodores trailed 56-49 with 6:20 remaining. Thomas made a free throw and Davis hit a jumper in the lane and converted a free throw for the three-point play pulling the Commodores within, 56-53 with 5:57 left. Caroline Williams’ only points of the game, a three-pointer from the left wing, tied the game, 56-56, with 5:33 left. Khadijah Whittington put the Wolfpack ahead with a free throw to make it 57-56 with 5:13 remaining. Thomas’ two free throws gave the Commodores a 58-57 lead at the 4:15 makr. After State went ahead, 61-58, another Davis three-pointer tied the game, 61-61 with 1:47 remaining. Whittington’s put-back with 1:27 left gave State the lead for good, 63-61.

Vanderbilt built a 40-28 lead right out of the locker room in the second half. Thomas and Earley each made two free throws and Cherish Stringfield and Ramsey added jumpers in the lane. NC State chopped into the Commodore lead with three-pointers. NC State used a 26-7 run over to go ahead 54-47. Stockdale and Monica Pope combined for six three-pointers during the stretch.

Vanderbilt only led 30-28 at halftime. The Commodores shot 45.8 percent in the half, but committed 11 turnovers. NC State shot just 37.5 percent in the half.

Vanderbilt took an early 5-0 lead behind a three-pointer from Stringfield and a jumper from Earley. Ramsey’s 203rd career three-pointer which tied the all-time record gave the Commodores an 8-2 lead at the 16:03 mark. Vanderbilt extended their lead to 14-6 at the 12:24 mark on a jumper from Nicole Jules. A quick 6-0 run from State pulled the Wolfpack within 14-12 with 11:50 left in the first half. Vanderbilt led 21-16 after a jumper from Ashley Earley, but State pulled within 21-20 with 4:40 remaining. Billie McDowell’s three-pointer tied the game, 23-23, at the 3:26. NC State then took its first lead of the game on Ashley Key’s three-pointer to go ahead 26-23 with 2:48 left.

Ramsey’s record-breaking three-pointer put Vandy back on top 28-26 with 1:43 left in the first.

Earley finished the game with 12 points while Ramsey added 10 points. Whittington added 11 points and Key finished with 10 points. NC State shot 46.2 percent including 47.4 percent from three-point range. Vandy finished the game shooting just 41.2 percent and committed 19 turnovers.

Vanderbilt returns to action Sunday at 2 p.m. The Commodores will celebrate fan appreciation day on when the Commodores host South Carolina for the SEC Opener. A special ticket offer of $1 will allow fans to help the 2004 defending SEC Tournament champions kick off the 2005 SEC season. The first 1,000 fans will receive lapel pins commemorating the 2004 SEC Tournament Championship.
