Earley and Thomas Help No. 13 Vanderbilt Cruise to a 93-50 win at Miami (Ohio) 12-4-04 12/4/2004 OXFORD, Ohio — Senior forward Ashley Earley scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and No. 13 Vanderbilt opened the second half with a 19-0 run to cruise to a 93-50 win over Miami (Ohio). Box Score Carla Thomas had 21 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season while Cincinnati native Dee Davis returned to her home-state and posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists. Vanderbilt shot 52.2 percent in the game and forced Miami into 28 turnovers and picked up 17 steals. Abi Ramsey finished with 16 points including three three-pointers and six steals. Amber Miller led Miami (Ohio) with 11 points. Cindi Merrill had nine points. The Redhawks only shot 32.8 percent in the game including 27.6 percent from the field in the second half. Vanderbilt out-rebounded the Redhawks, 42-36. The Commodores opened the second half with a 19-0 run. Earley, Davis and Thomas combined for all 19 points during the run. Davis scored eight of her 18 points in the first six minutes of the half giving the Commodores a 65-29 lead at the 14:06 mark. Miami’s first point of the second half came on a Kate Guerriero free throw with 13:38 remaining in the game. Five points from Earley and a jumper from Thomas help extend the VU lead to 72-30 with 11:52 left. The Redhawks’ first made field goal of the second half came with 9:47 to play when Miller got loose for a lay-up to make it, 72-32. Vanderbilt shot 48.6 percent in the first half to take a 46-29 halftime lead into the locker room. Earley scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Ramsey added 10 points in the first half as VU forced the Red hawks into 11 turnovers and recorded seven steals in the first half. Thomas scored the first basket of the game to put VU ahead, 2-0, in the opening seconds. An Amanda Jackson basket tied the game, 2-2. The Redhawks took the lead, 5-4, on a lay-up by Merrill and a free throw from Miller giving the Commodores their first deficit of the season. Vanderbilt then went on a 22-4 run to take a 26-9 lead with 11:18 left in the first half. Davis had six points during the run. Vanderbilt takes to the road Thursday when the Commodores travel for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Western Kentucky. |
