NEW ORLEANS, La. — Senior forward Ashley Earley became the 24th Vanderbilt player to register 1,000 career points scoring a career-high 26 points and No. 13 Vanderbilt shot 71 percent in the second half as the Commodores downed New Orleans, 91-37, Thursday evening at the Lakefront Arena.

Cherish Stringfield came off the bench to score 12 second-half points as four Commodores finished in double figures.

Dee Davis had 11 points and sophomore Caroline Williams chipped in a career-high 10 points, all coming in the second half. VU finished the game shooting 58.1 percent including 42.1 percent from behind the arc. Carla Thomas and Earley each finished with seven rebounds.

Earley took over the second half for the Commodores, who led 34-16 at halftime. She scored 16 second half points including 14 straight points during a 27-6 run to open the second half as VU led 63-22 with 9:48 left. Abi Ramsey and Williams both had three-pointers during the stretch. After Davis, Stringfield and Antony combined for the first seven points of the half, Earley scored 14 straight points. Her lay-up at the 12:33 mark was her 1,000th career point. Stringfield and Williams then combined for three three-pointers to put VU ahead, 76-28, with 5:34 left. The ‘Dores closed the game with a 15-9 run to make for the final margin.

Earley scored 10 first-half points to help the Commodores to a 34-16 halftime lead. Davis and Ramsey each added six points in the half. The Commodores shot 45.2 percent in the first stanza.

UNO took a brief 3-2 lead on a three-pointer from Kori Bledsoe 44 seconds into the game. Four consecutive points from Nicole Jules gave the Commodores a 15-5 lead at the 11:51 mark. UNO came within 18-12 on a three-pointer from Christen Miller with 9:30 remaining. The Privateers got within 20-16 with 7:15 left in the first half, but the Commodores held UNO scoreless over the last seven minutes and Earley scored six points during a 14-0 run to close out the half.

Ramsey and Katie Antony each finished with nine points. Jules had six points and Katie Eggers finished with five points. Ashlee Norwood led UNO with 10 points.

Vanderbilt returns home Sunday to face Troy at 12 p.m.
