Vanderbilt Looks to Right Ship Against Austin Peay After two losses in the final rounds of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational Vanderbilt returns to Memorial Gymnasium Wednesday looking to again reach the win column. The Commodores (3-2) will play host to the Governors (1-3) beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Vanderbilt women’s contest against Memphis that tips off at 6 p.m. CT. Game Notes Vanderbilt hopes to play with more intensity and take better care of the basketball against Austin Peay after committing 41 turnovers in Las Vegas. The Commodores have been outstanding at home this season shooting 52.4 percent from the field (89-of-170), including 47.9 percent from behind the arc. Having won 16 consecutive non-conference home games at Memorial Gymnasium, Vanderbilt has continued its home success this season, outscoring its opponents by 18.7 points a contest. The Governors are coming off their best two-year win total in school history (47) but have struggled out of the gate this season. Austin Peay saw their 29-game home-court win streak (second longest in the nation) snapped Saturday against Wichita State, 72-62. The Governors are led in scoring by Maurice Hampton’s 16.0 points a game. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 11-1, having won the last eight meetings. |
