Commodores Drop 87-68 Decision to Arizona State LAS VEGAS, Nev. – All-America candidate Ike Diogu hit 8-of-10 field goals and made 14 free throws in posting a game-high 30 points to lead Arizona State past Vanderbilt, 87-68, in the third-place consolation game of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational Saturday at the Valley Athletic Complex. Box Score The Sun Devils (3-1) shot 58.3 percent from the field (28-of-48), including 66.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc (8-of-12). Steve Moore recorded 20 points, going 7-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Vanderbilt (3-2) committed a season-high 21 turnovers in dropping its second consecutive game in Las Vegas. The Commodores’ only lead of the game came on the opening basket by Julian Terrell. The Sun Devils scored the next 14 points of the game, including six from Diogu. Vanderbilt trimmed the deficit to three points thanks to a pair a three-pointers by Shan Foster, a trey from Mario Moore and a lay-up from Corey Smith. However, Arizona State scored the next 10 points, took a 35-23 lead to halftime and never saw their lead fall below eight points in the second stanza. Vanderbilt was led in scoring by Alex Gordon’s 16 points. The freshman guard hit 5-of-8 field goal attempts, including a trio of three-pointers. Shan Foster and Moore netted 10 points each. The Commodores return home to take on Austin Peay, Wednesday, Dec. 1. Tip-off comes 30 minutes following the Vanderbilt women’s contest that starts at 6 p.m. CT. |
