Vanderbilt Takes On Talented Saluki Squad In Third-Round Action of Las Vegas Holiday Invitational

Vanderbilt (3-0) travels to Las Vegas to press its luck against Southern Illinois (2-0) in third-round action of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational, Friday, Nov. 26. Game time at the Valley Athletic Complex is set for 7 p.m. CT.

Game Notes

The Commodores have looked sharp in three home outings, shooting a blistering 52.4 percent from the field (89-of-170), including 47.9 percent from behind the arc. Jason Holwerda has Vanderbilt’s most accurate eye to date, hitting 75.0 percent of his field goal attempts (15-of-20). Dawid Przybyszewski has registered two double-doubles in three games.

Vanderbilt is coming off a 93-75 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday. Corey Smith led the Commodores with a career-high 21 points. Dan Cage added a career-best 14 points.

Southern Illinois defeated Tennessee State 83-60 Tuesday in Carbondale, Ill. Jamaal Tatum netted a game-high 17 points, including five three-pointers.

The winner advances to face either Arizona State or UTEP in the championship game on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. CT. The loser plays in the third-place game, Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.

Vanderbilt owns a 1-0 advantage against Southern Illinois having won 79-72 in the final round of the Vanderbilt Invitational on Dec. 7, 1974.
