Dores glide to second win of season, 61-28 11-23-04 11/23/2004 SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Commodore women’s basketball team easily handled the Savannah State Tigers tonight, 61-28. Box Score Senior Ashley Earley earned her second consecutive double-double, scoring a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. An aggressive Commodore defense swarmed from the opening tipoff, essentially smothering any offensive effort put forth by the Tigers. Vanderbilt created turnover after turnover, executed two successful traps, forced one over-and-back call, and executed multiple steals in the opening minutes of the game. By the 11:33 mark, the Commodores had sailed to a 19-2 lead. Sophomore Dee Davis led the ‘Dores with five of the team’s 15 steals. Combined with an up-tempo offense that included three three-pointers from Abi Ramsey, Coach Melanie Balcomb’s Commodores took a 35-13 lead into the half. The next opponent for the undefeated Commodores is Rhode Island in the opening round of the Vanderbilt Tournament at Memorial Gym Friday, Nov. 26. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. |
