Vanderbilt Welcomes Alabama-Huntsville

Vanderbilt plays its final preseason exhibition contest Saturday when the University of Alabama-Huntsville enters Memorial Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. CT tip-off.

Game Preview

The Commodores are coming off an 82-54 exhibition victory over the University of Panamericana Tuesday. Six VU players scored in double figures led by senior Jason Holwerda’s 12 points.

Senior Dawid Przybyszewski recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Mario Moore hit a trio of three-pointers and finished with 11 points. Senior Corey Smith, freshman Alex Gordon and junior Julian Terrell contributed 10 points each in the win.

Gordon was one of four freshmen that saw 13 or more minutes of action in the exhibition opener. Gordon along with fellow newcomers DeMarre Carroll, Shan Foster and Alan Metcalfe entered the game six minutes after tip-off and helped push the Commodores on a 18-2 run that broke open a close contest. For the game, Foster had nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Carroll and Metcalfe grabbed six rebounds apiece.

Vanderbilt opens regular season play against Toledo on Friday, Nov. 19. Game time is set for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game against St. Francis (Pa.) that starts at 6 p.m. CT.
