Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball Quotes
Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
“As a coach, you have to be confident for your players to be confident. You have got to play the best to be the best. I like our chemistry. I think our biggest challenge is going to be depth.”
On the SEC… “You have to be ready every night. When we recruit, we sell the conference from top to bottom. If you look back, I think were in the top 20 and we were a six-seed in the SEC tournament. That’s how strong our conference is.”
Guard Abi Ramsey
On the season… “We have six sophomores that are coming back off of great freshman years. Since we have so much young experience we have really been able to focus on our defense and just playing basketball. We only have two new player so we have really been able to focus on what we need to do this season.”
On expectations… “We are capable of doing anything this season. We are in a very strong conference where the competition is great every night and you have to expect a battle every time you go out. However, I would not have come to Vanderbilt if I did not think that the sky was the limit. We just have to go out every night and play our game and the rest will take care of itself.”
Guard/Forward Ashley Earley
On returning players… “Most people say that you improve the most between your freshman and sophomore year. I think that votes well for us because we had so many freshman do so well last year. They are a very confident bunch and got a lot of playing experience last season. I think that will help us to win a lot of games this season.”
On the SEC… “I think everyone in the SEC takes pride in how good this conference is. It is so competitive and you have to go out every night and play your best if you don’t want to get beat. I think when you are in the best conference in America it pushes you to work harder so that you can make an impression.”
