Commodores beat EKU Colonels 19-7

NASHVILLE — The Commodores won their second game of the season today, defeating the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels, 19-7. It is the first time this season the Dores have held the opposing team to fewer than 13 points.

Quarterback Jay Cutler completed 15 of 21 pass attempts for 156 yards, threw for one touchdown and rushed 55 yards on another score. Cutler entered today’s game second in the SEC in pass completion percentage (63.3), third in the SEC in total offense (210.7 yards per game) and 25th in the nation in efficiency. Cutler has not thrown an interception since late in the second game of the season.

Three Commodores had season-best performances today. Tailback Kwane Doster led the ‘Dores in rushing, gaining 117 yards. And receivers Marlon White and Erik Davis each caught season-high five passes for season-high yardage (71 and 67 yards, respectively).

Junior Moses Osemwegie, who entered today’s game second in the league in tackles, led the Commodores with 11 stops. He also broke up two pass attempts, one midway through the fourth quarter when EKU tried to make it a single-possession game.

The Commodores gave up no turnovers and had no penalties in the game.

Back judge George Ranager injured his left knee in the first quarter, and was replaced by alternate Clifton Eley.

The Commodores travel to Baton Rouge next week to face the Louisiana State University Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
