Women’s soccer faces Mississippi State in Starkville 10/22/2004 The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team are coming off a big win against Georgia (4-2) to face Mississippi State in Starkville, MS. The Commodores have three SEC regular season games remaining in the season including two this weekend. The Commodores have been playing excellent against SEC competition and are currently the third seed in the eastern division. They are excited about the opportunity to play in the SEC toturnament in early November at Auburn. Not looking too far ahead, Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill and the Commodores have to get past Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Kentucky before ending their regular season of SEC play. In the win against Georgia last weekend, the Commodores showed great promise of playing top notch soccer. Goal leader Meghan Habig (6) netted two goals while Alexis Yoculan scored her first collegiate goal and Susan McAleavey added another. The Dores lead the SEC in many statistical categories including assists (Lafield-7), saves per game (Griffin-6.13), points (Habig-13) and points per game (Habig-.87). Goalkeeper Tyler Griffin has played great for the Dores and has played in ten games. She has registered 1000 minutes of play this season and 62 total saves. Mississippi State is currently in a three-way tie for the sixth seed overall in SEC standings. The Bulldogs have faced big time opponents such as #1 North Carolina (L, 4-1) and #23 Auburn (L, 3-0). Miss. State also put up a win against Georgia in September, 1-0. The Bulldogs lead goal scorer is currently junior forward Betty Ann Casey. Sophomore Sara Moore has netted two game winning goals for the Bulldogs. They are currently 6-7-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the SEC. The game kicks off on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Starkville. The Commodores then return home for a Sunday match at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex at 2:30 p.m. against Ole Miss.
