Vanderbilt’s Moore Named Preseason Second Team All-SEC by League’s Coaches Vanderbilt junior guard Mario Moore was named Preseason Second Team All-Southeastern Conference by the league’s coaches on Thursday. Moore, a product of Nashville’s Antioch High School, returns as the Commodores’ leading scorer after averaging 11.2 points during the 2003-04 campaign. He stepped up his play in the postseason, leading Vanderbilt in scoring in five of its final six games during its run to the 2004 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. During the stretch, Moore averaged 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals. A year ago, Moore finished ninth in the SEC, shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Starting in 31 of Vanderbilt’s 33 games, he led the team in three-pointers made (66) and attempted (182), as well as steals (46). The 2004-05 Commodores take the floor for the first time in an exhibition contest against the University of Panamericana (Mexico) on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. CT. The regular season begins Nov. 19 against Toledo. Season tickets remain available.
