Men’s soccer finished weekend with 3-0 loss to Drake 10/17/2004 Men’s soccer finished weekend with 3-0 loss to Drake Des Moines, Iowa – The Drake Bulldogs shutout the Vanderbilt Commodores today, 3-0, at Cownie Stadium. It is the first time since the season opener that the Commodores were held scoreless in a game – a 1-0 loss to Belmont. Vanderbilt is now 6-7-1, 2-4 in the Missouri Valley conference, while Drake is owns a 7-6-1 mark, 3-2-1 in the MVC. The Bulldogs outshot Vanderbilt 21-10, led by Matt Nickell who totaled eight shots, including five on goal. Nickell’s most impressive stat of the day was the three assists he totaled in the contest. Drake’s first goal came at the 8:37 mark on a header by Besmir Bega. Ryan Samuelson then scored at the 64:21 mark after a steal and the final goal was by Vince Revak with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Freshman Joe Germanese totaled three shots, including one on goal, followed by Josh Medcalf and Justin Moreland with two shots, both on goal. VU goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni gave up the three goals while stopping nine shots on goal in 84:19. Senior Jamie Burns came into the game for the final 5:41 and totaled two saves. Drake’s Phillip Breuer earned his third shutout of the season with six saves. The Commodores return home to host Eastern Illinois Friday (Oct. 22) at 7 pm and Bradley University Sunday (Oct. 24) at Noon. |
