The Commodores got on the board early and held the lead for most of the game. Vanderbilt scored first on a 34-yard field goal by Patrick Johnson. Quarterback Jay Cutler and his backup Steven Bright each scored rushing touchdowns, as did fullback Matthew Tant. Wide receiver Erik Davis returned to the lineup after missing last week’s game due to an injury, and scored on a 13-yard pass in the second quarter.

The defense played aggressively, making four interceptions — two by cornerback Bill Alford. The squad also forced two fumbles and constantly pressured the Bulldog quarterbacks. Linebacker Moses Osemwegie had a team-high 10 solo tackles, and 11 total.

Tonight’s win comes on the heels of back-to-back road losses, each by a margin of only three points.

The Commodores (1-3, 1-2) suit up at home again next Saturday, Oct. 9, against Rutgers (2-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
