Commodore Ready For No. 20 Auburn

Come out and support VU’s “Break the Attendance Night”

Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill knows how hard the Commodores work, and she knows they are ready to play in their SEC home opener Friday at 5 p.m. CT against the 20th-ranked Tigers from Auburn.

The Dores return home after two SEC road games, losing the first against Arkansas but coming back in double overtime against LSU. “As a team, we have to continue to build upon the good result we had against LSU last weekend.  I am hopeful that the double overtime win will not only spark us this weekend emotionally but also provide some confidence as we enter the weekend games,” said Hill.

The team will face off first against Auburn and then on Sunday versus Alabama. “The excitement has been brewing over this weekend for days.  It is a great feeling to come back home to play against two very good SEC teams.  Both Alabama and Auburn enter this weekend after strong showings in the first round of SEC action,” said Hill.

Auburn comes to Nashville with a record of 7-2-0, 2-0 in SEC play. The Tigers have only been defeated by Indiana and #6 Kansas. Auburn has faced SEC foes South Carolina and #4 Florida and came up victorious in both challneging games. The Tigers are led by senior goalkeeper Megan Rivera who broke the SEC record of 29.5 saves by making her 30th save versus Florida. Rivera was named the SEC defensive player of the week and was named to the Soccer America Elite Team of the week.

Vanderbilt is led by their two seniors, Jessica Fear and Molly Wilson. The Commodores also have a secret weapon in Sarah Dennis, a freshman forward who looks like she was born with the ball on her foot. Junior Meghan Habig has also put forth spectacular effort in the past two SEC games, scoring two against LSU including the goal in double overtime.

The game promotion is “Break the Attendance” night and, hopefully, we can break the record of 525 fans through the gate. The women’s game will be followed immediately by the men’s soccer team taking on Evansville in their Missouri Valley Conference opener.
