After going undefeated in four consecutive games, the Vanderbilt men’s soccer team broke into the regional rankings this week.  The Commodores are ranked 10th in the NSCAA/adidas Midwest Region released Tuesday (Sept. 28).  It is the first ranking for the Commodores since Tim McClement’s took over as head coach in 2002.

The Commodores are coming off three consecutive wins vs. Memphis (ranked #6 in the Midwest), Lipscomb and Wright State and a 3-3 tie with Northwestern.

Vanderbilt is off to its best start with a 4-3-1 record since the 2001 season when the Commodores also began with a 4-3-1 mark.

“It’s great that our team is being recognized for its performance,” McClements said.  “We have been playing well, but the most difficult and most important games are ahead of us.”

Vanderbilt opens Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend when the Commodores host Evansville Friday (Oct. 1) and Southwest Missouri Sunday (Oct. 3).

The Commodores lead the Missouri Valley Conference with 62 points (20 goals, 22 assists), led by junior John Krause who is tied for first in the league with 16 points.
