Women’s Soccer Scores in Double Overtime to Beat LSU 9/27/2004 The women’s soccer team returns home tonight after winning their first SEC game of the season beating LSU 2-1. Box score Junior midfielder Meghan Habig put in two goals to give the Commodores their first SEC win of the season. The first goal was scored 30 minutes into the game, assisted by sophomore forward Lea Lafield. The Commodores then played tough through the rest of the game only allowing the Tigers to score once early in the second half. The tie-breaking goal from Habig came early in the second overtime period. Tyler Griffin played the entire game for the Commodores as goal-keeper. She registered six saves on 16 shots. The Commodores turned in 15 shots for the game including both overtime periods. The Commodores needed this game as a confidence boost after a tough SEC loss to Arkansas. The Commodores continue SEC play when they return home to face Auburn on Friday, October 1st at 5:00 p.m. The game marks Vanderbilt’s attempt to break the attendance record with a men’s soccer game versus Evansville following at 7:00 p.m. |
