Vanderbilt Defeats Lipscomb, 2-1 Nashville, Tenn. — Junior John Krause scored at the 82:15 mark to help lead the Vanderbilt Commodores to a 2-1 victory over Lipscomb tonight at the Lipscomb Soccer Field. Vanderbilt is now 3-3-1 overall, while Lipscomb falls to 0-7. — Box Score — Krause, the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, took a feed from Justin Moreland and Joe Germanese from 6-yards out to record his second-consecutive game winner. After a scoreless first half, Germanese kicked in a shot off a rebound of Lipscomb goalkeeper Jake Georgen. Georgen made a save on a Josh Medcalf shot attempt and the ball deflected to Germanese who was right in front of the net. “I’m proud of Josh (Medcalf) and his efforts coming off the bench to create our first scoring opportunity,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim McClements said. “He was an offensive threat the entire time he was on the field.” Medcalf totaled three shots, including two on goal. The Bisons tied the game at the 56:47 mark when Xander Vooys hit the right side of the net from 10-yards out on an assist from Jeff Boynton. Vanderbilt outshot Lipscomb 23-8, including 11 shots on goal. Krause, who totaled six shots, including four on goal, hit the right bar at the 23:09 mark on an 18-yard shot and then had a shot deflected by Georgen from 6-yards out with 41 seconds remaining in the half. Patrick Ryan also had a shot hit the post at the 66:02 mark. Curt Hinds missed on a 15-yard shot that sailed just over the goal at the 28:51 mark and then had another shot blocked at the 58:31 mark. “Curt (Hinds) added a much needed spark in the midfield,” McClements said. “He played well in the center of the midfield and also played well out wide.” VU’s Kenny Schoeni totaled one save, while Georgen numbered nine saves in goal for the Bisons. “Although it wasn’t our best effort, our players are finding a way to win,” McClements added. “The defenders played steady the entire game and in the end, John (Krause) and Joe (Germanese) found the back of the net.” The Commodores travel to Dayton, Ohio, Sunday (Sept. 26) to take on Wright State at 2 pm ET.
