Commodores Basketball Schedule Announced, Ticket Prices Remain the Same Coming off a Sweet 16 appearance at the 2004 NCAA Tournament, the Vanderbilt men’s basketball squad, will play 16 games against teams that advanced to postseason action a year ago according to the 2004-05 schedule announced Friday. 2004-05 Schedule Season tickets will remain at the 2003-04 price level. A reserved seat for 18 home games starts at only $75. Eleven match-ups on the 2004-05 schedule come against last season’s NCAA Tournament qualifiers: Cincinnati, Dayton, Louisiana-Lafayette, Alabama, Kentucky (twice), Florida (twice), South Carolina (twice) and Mississippi State. The Commodores also could compete against two other NCAA Tournament participants in the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational during the Thanksgiving Holiday. “This is one of the most difficult non-conference schedules that I can remember since we’ve been here,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings said. “While it will be challenging for our players, it will help them prepare for the demanding SEC season.” The Vanderbilt men’s basketball team has three doubleheader dates with the women’s squad beginning on Nov. 19 when the men tip-off the regular season against Toledo. The men’s game will start 30 minutes after the women’s contest against St. Francis (Pa.) that begins at 6 p.m. The second doubleheader on Dec. 1 features the VU men’s team playing host to Austin Peay 30 minutes following the end of the women’s contest against Memphis that starts at 6 p.m. The third time both the Vanderbilt men’s and women’s teams play on the same date is Jan. 2 when the women tip off at noon against Troy before the men battle Louisiana-Lafayette beginning at 5 p.m. Vanderbilt has scheduled two exhibition games prior to the start of the season. The Commodores will take on the University of Panamericana (Mexico) Nov. 9 at 7 p.m., before Alabama-Huntsville visits four days later on Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. The Commodores’ non-conference slate also includes the four-game Las Vegas Holiday Invitational. The first two games will be played in Nashville on Nov. 21 and 23. The final two games of the tournament are Nov. 26 and 27 in Las Vegas. While the complete list of participants is not finalized, confirmed teams include Arizona State, Delaware State, Jackson State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State and UTEP. Vanderbilt also travels to Portland, Ore., to take on Oregon in the Pape Jam at the Rose Garden on Dec. 4, before traveling to Cincinnati to battle the Bearcats on Dec. 9. Vanderbilt opens its Southeastern Conference schedule by playing host to Alabama on Jan. 5. The Commodores and Crimson Tide were the final two SEC teams remaining in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt home dates against other SEC teams ranked in last season’s Top 25 include: Florida, Jan. 15; Kentucky, Feb. 5; and South Carolina, March 2.
