On Campus in Nashville — The Commodores took a break from full contact Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, but kept sharp working on tempo, game management and team teaching.

Bobby Johnson’s Commodores are expected to return in full pads Wednesday night at the Rich Practice Complex.  The practice schedule also calls for one session Thursday and their third two-a-day workout Friday.

For the first time this preseason, Coach Johnson put the Commodore offense under the 25-second clock, seeking to simulate game conditions in 11-on-11 situational drills.

“We spent some time under the clock, working on tempo and game management. It’s a critically important aspect of the game. We accomplished a lot of positive things accomplished in both practices,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s coaching staff also continued its focus on individual instruction and fundamentals.  Each position coach put their pupils through an array of drills during the first 30 minutes of each session, then added another half-hour session prior to the closing 11-on-11 segment.

The Rutgers game, being billed as “Fan Appreciation Day,” features a postgame fireworks show.  All tickets are priced at $10 each.

Upcoming Schedule

In addition to practicing once on Thursday and twice on Friday, the Commodores are expected to scrimmage in Vanderbilt Stadium Saturday afternoon, then take a day off on Sunday.

The Saturday scrimmage will be closed to the general public.
