Snedeker Cards Record 6-Under 66 to Qualify For PGA TOUR’s B.C. Open

On Monday at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y., former Vanderbilt All-America golfer Brandt Snedeker qualified for this weekend’s PGA TOUR event, the B.C. Open, with a competitive course record 6-under-par 66. He will open tournament play on the En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y., on Thursday, July 15.

After beginning his Monday qualifying round on the back nine, Snedeker completed his day with an eagle on the ninth hole after hitting a two-iron to within 10 feet and draining the putt. The 2003 Vanderbilt graduate registered an eagle, five birdies and a bogey in his tour of the par-72, 7,067-yard layout.

The Nashville, Tenn., native and 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Champion made the cut as an amateur at the Masters earlier this year and has since made the cut in seven of his PGA TOUR starts since turning professional in April. His best finish on the tour is a tie for 27th at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship (May 10-16) following rounds of 70-66-71-69=276. He completed play at the Byron Nelson at -4, just six strokes back of tournament champion Sergio Garcia.

The first Vanderbilt Commodore men’s golfer to be named as a First-Team All-American, Snedeker spent time during his senior year as the nation’s number one ranked player by both Golfstat and the Golfweek/Sagarin poll. He also was chosen during his senior campaign as the Southeastern Conference’s Male Golfer of the Year and was tabbed as an All-SEC selection for the third consecutive season. He won the 2002 Mason Rudolph individual title with a Vanderbilt school-record three-round total of 198 and held the top two single round scores in VU history with a pair of 65’s until Commodore freshman sensation Luke List’s round of 63 during this year’s Hyatt/Dorado Beach Intercollegiate.
