Tracy Parsons has been named assistant women’s golf coach at Vanderbilt, according to Head Coach Martha Richards Freitag.

Parsons served as a graduate assistant with the Commodores this spring, helping Vanderbilt win the Southeastern Conference championship and finish fifth at the NCAA Championships.

Parsons came to Vanderbilt from nearby Belmont University, where she served as a graduate assistant with the women’s golf team since August, 2003.  She holds Bachelor of Arts (2002) and Master of Education in Sport Administration (2003) degrees from Belmont.

“Tracy was a valuable addition to our program last spring and her outstanding performance in that role made her the obvious choice as my assistant,” Freitag said in making the announcement.  “She has a very good golf background and the talent and work ethic to help keep our program successful on a national basis.”

Parsons, a Brentwood native, was previously the Program Director for the Tennessee Golf Foundation, based at the Golf House of Tennessee in Franklin.  There she organized and implemented programs to introduce beginning junior golfers to the game and planned junior tournaments.

Prior to that, Parsons was a Junior Golf Office Assistant and Tournament Coordinator for the Tennessee Junior Tour and also worked at the Country Club of Franklin.

Parsons played college golf at Belmont and also at Western Kentucky, where she began her collegiate career.  She has a deep background of golf activities, such as co-tournament director of the Mini Vinny in 2003, and involvement with the Special Olympics, LPGA Electrolux, LPGA Sara Lee Classic, BellSouth Senior Classic, Tennessee School for the Blind golf activities and The Vinny.

She was an outstanding scholar-athlete, earning the Academic Achievement Award for the highest grade point average on the Belmont team, making the Dean’s List at Belmont, named the Outstanding Scholar-Athlete at Western Kentucky for two years and was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society.
