Commodore Fans Get Behind the Dores 6-11-04
NCC function gives behind-the-scenes tour of VU football

On June 8, 2004, the Vanderbilt football team and the National Commodore Club allowed fans to get “Behind the ‘Dores!” With close to 400 people in attendance, the event was a huge success. Head Football Coach Bobby Johnson helped Executive Director of Development Chris Wyrick kick off the night with a blow of the whistle. From there, fan were dispersed in groups to receive an exclusive behind the scenes look at many aspects of the Commodore football program.

The tour included stops at:

The football weight room The equipment and locker rooms The training room Offensive and defensive meetings The academic center Chef Majid “Magic” Noori’s training table

After everyone completed their stations in the McGugin Center, the fans walked across Jess Neely Drive to the concourse of the Vanderbilt Football Stadium to enjoy a Chic-Fil-A dinner. During the dinner, fans had the opportunity to listen to an outstanding group of speakers, featuring:

Joe Fisher, “The Voice of the Commodores” John Ingram, President of the National Commodore Club Board Chancellor E. Gordon Gee Vice Chancellor David Williams II Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin Coach Johnson Chris Wyrick

The fans were treated to a special guest appearance by the Commodore baseball team and several key members of the Commodore football team.

To cap off the evening, a pair of Commodore fans won Vanderbilt prize packages. Leonard Hill received a Coach Johnson-autographed football after winning the Commodore trivia contest, while Byron Smith won the opportunity to join the VU football team on one of its 2004 road trips.
