NORMAN, Okla.Vanderbilt freshman Luke List has been tabbed as a third team Ping All-America and a member of the national five-player All-Freshman team, while Commodore Ben McClung was chosen as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recipient according to announcements issued by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

“This is great news for our program,” said Vanderbilt head coach Press McPhaul.  “It’s a tremendous honor for Luke List to be chosen as one of the top-five freshman players in America and for Ben to be selected as a Cleveland Scholar recipient.  We strive to achieve success both on and off the golf course here at Vanderbilt.  This proves that we are on the right track.”

List, a Ringgold, Ga., native becomes the first Vanderbilt rookie ever to be chosen to the GCAA All-Freshman squad and only the second Black and Gold golfer in program history to achieve All-American status following a freshman campaign in which he led the ‘Dores in scoring average at 72.03.  The rookie joins former Commodore and current PGA professional Brandt Snedeker (2002 and 2003 All-American) as VU golfers who garnered A-A accolades.  During the 2003-04 campaign, the VU sensation posted nine top-10 finishes in 13 events while helping the Commodores advance to the NCAA Division I Championships for the second consecutive season.  List established two new school records during his initial campaign in the Black and Gold.  He carded a seven-under par 65 at the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate to set the VU mark for most shots under par in a single round and fired a nine-under par 63 at the Hyatt/Dorado Beach Intercollegiate to break the record for lowest single round score previously shared by both List and Snedeker (65).

Junior Ben McClung (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) was tabbed as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recipient following a campaign in which he proved a solid contributor to the team’s efforts, while maintaining a 3.28 GPA in Human and Organizational Development.  McClung’s high-finish of the season was a tie for 15th at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions.  His 1-under par 215 (72-72-71) helped VU nab team honors.  His low round of the campaign was a 70 at both the Atlanta Intercollegiate and Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate.  He finished inside the top-40 in six of the 13 events he played.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I.  He must also be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university.
