Freitag National Coach of Year 6-10-04 6/10/2004 Vanderbilt women’s golf coach Martha Richards Freitag has been selected national Coach of the Year by Golfweek, one of the sport’s major publications. Freitag, in her fourth year in Nashville, led the Commodores to their finest season in program history. Vanderbilt won five tournaments, including the Southeastern Conference Championship and the NCAA Central Region in post-season play. The Commodores finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, playing with only four members after SEC Co-Player of the Year May Wood became academically ineligible on the eve of the tournament. She earlier had been selected as the SEC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. Four of the five team members earned all-SEC honors. Golfweek selected Duke’s Liz Janangelo as its national Player of the Year and tabbed Brittany Lang, also from Duke, as the Freshman of the Year. |
