ATHENS, Ga. — A pair of Commodores advanced through the first round of play at the 2004 NCAA Singles Championships Monday at the Dan Magill Tennis Center.
Junior Audra Falk, ranked 13th in the nation, defeated Petra Dizdar of Texas, 6-1, 6-1, while senior Kelly Schmandt overcame SMU’s Svetlana Kouzmenko, 7-5, 6-3. Falk will take on Stanford’s Teresa Logar at 11 a.m. CT Tuesday, while Schmandt will face seventh-seeded Amanda Johnson of Duke at 8 a.m. CT. In the afternoon, Schmandt will team up with fellow-senior Aleke Tsoubanos in a match against Ruckert and Strohm of the University of Texas. That match is scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m. CT. Play continues at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Athens through Saturday, May 29.
