Jeremy Sowers Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Junior left-hander Jeremy Sowers has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week today.  Against Kentucky, he struck out eight batters in 7.2 innings and allowed only one run in helping lead Vanderbilt to a 9-1 victory clinching a spot for the Commodores in the SEC Tournament.

Sowers is only one of two Commodores pitchers to record at least 300 career strikeouts — he now totals 305.

He is tied for seventh on the VU single season strikeout list with 97 and 10th with 102.1 innings pitched.  His eight wins are tied for sixth most wins in a Commodore season.  His 21 career wins places his fifth on the VU all-time list.  He owns an overall ERA of 2.99 appearing in 16 games, including 14 starts.

This is the second time this season Sowers has won Pitcher of the Week honors and the fourth time in his career.
