VU Women’s Tennis Plays Host To NCAA Regional 5/14/2004 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The third-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team plays host to an NCAA Regional Championship at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center this weekend, May 15-16. Florida State and Marshall will open the weekend at 10 a.m. CT, followed by a Vanderbilt/IUPUI matchup at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all matches. The Commodores (22-3) will take on the Jaguars, 2004 champions of the Mid-Continent Conference. Vanderbilt is in search of its ninth-straight NCAA First Round victory. The Commodores last conceded a point in the opening round in 1996, a 5-1 win over TCU in College Station, Texas. The senior duo of Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos, the nation’s second-ranked doubles team, lead the Dores into action Saturday. Junior Audra Falk paces the Commodores in singles with a No. 14 national ranking. Head Coach Geoff Macdonald has taken the Commodores to the tournament every year since arriving in Nashville and has compiled a 20-9 record in tournament play. The winners of Saturday’s two matches will face off on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the opportunity to advance to the Round of 16, hosted this season by the University of Georgia in Athens.
